iPod Dock and Connectors

Understanding the iPods connectivity

Once upon a time, the iPod came with a firewire cable which some, including myself, thought more reliable in the way of data transfer. Anyhow, All iPods with the exception of the iPod shuffle come with a USB2 cable and an AC adapter. This is probably keeping in line with the USB standard which we have already seen on Computers, Car Audio Headsets, PS2 Games consoles and the up and coming PS3 (apparently).

Many of us use computers and we are not unaccustomed to having dock's for our PDA or mobile phone. Early 1G and 2G (Generation) iPods do not have the ability to connect to a Dock but 3rd Generation iPods onwards do and if your looking to connect your iPod up to your Hi-Fi or television then you will need one of these.

The iPod shuffle is more like a USB Pen Drive so no Dock Connector is needed.
